dental crown Crowns (Caps)Occasionally, something will happen that ruins the appearance of one or more of our teeth which is irreparable. Teeth that die, that have undergone a root canal, that crack, and dental implants all need to be covered with a false tooth cap, known as a crown in order to remain strong, healthy, and natural-looking.

As its name implies, a dental cap or crown resembles the outside of a tooth, but is hollow, and designed to fit over your actual tooth in order to completely change its appearance. The resulting tooth is natural and inconspicuous, due to the fact that CCIND only uses porcelain crowns in our offices. Older, less-advanced dental offices tended to use metal to cap teeth, which obviously stand out when placed in an otherwise natural smile! Rest assured though, here at CCIND we always combine our restorative procedures with our vast knowledge of cosmetic dentistry, and we are committed to making sure all of our procedures live up to your aesthetic desires and expectations.

If our staff here at CCIND determines that a crown is right for you, your tooth will be filed down to make room for the cap (this step is unnecessary if the crown is to be placed over a dental implant, which is purposely sized to allow for the addition of a crown), and a temporary crown will be placed on the tooth. This allows for time to individually construct your crown, so that it perfectly meets your individual needs and specifications. On your final visit, the permanent crown is put into place, and you can dazzle with your perfect smile yet again.

When taken care of properly, porcelain crowns can last for ten to fifteen years, though smoking or improper care of the crown can result in a stained appearance, which usually does not respond well to bleaching, so it is essential to engage in proper oral hygiene.
