Your regular routine visit to the dentist is not just for cleaning – though you may not realize it, a very thorough examination process of your teeth, mouth, tongue, gums, jaw, bite, and smile occurs while you undergo your check-up. For this reason, we here at CCIND hope that you will consider visiting the dentist more than the minimal twice a year; a lot can happen in six months, and the more frequently you visit your dentist, the more often you can have your mouth examined for cavities and periodontal disease, as well as for more serious issues, such as tumors or cancer of the mouth, tongue, or gums.
Many patients find that sitting through a dental exam can be at best, boring, and at worst, nerve-wracking and uncomfortable. However, CCIND is committed to making your visit as pleasant as possible, and only use the most gentle techniques during your exam. We also encourage you to speak up about any fears or concerns you have prior to your exam, as well as to let us know if anything is making you uncomfortable or causing you any sort of pain during your exam. CCIND can make your time at the dentist as comfortable as possible.
At your exam, you can expect to see both a hygienist and a dentist at certain points during the visit. They will evaluate your dental history, as well as the current state of your teeth, gums, lips, tongue, throat, and face for any signs for irregularities, and to check your overall health. From this evaluation, they will also be able to tell if your regular oral hygiene rituals are up to par, and may instruct you to use a specific kind of toothbrush, toothpaste, or to floss more for optimum dental care. Finally, your teeth with be checked for strength, cracks, and cavities, and appointments will be made for any future treatment you may need. The cleaning is the final process of the exam, and removes tartar and plaque from the surfaces of your teeth. If your teeth are lacking in fluoride, a fluoride treatment may be given as well.
